What do you think of Brook as a boys name?

I know it's generaly a girls name with the "e" at the end but I think it's kind of tough for a boy. That's sort of what I'm looking for but diiferent. Something strong, but not like Zeus of Hercules or Tito.

What do you think of Brook as a boys name?
I like Brook for a man! It is strong sounding and kinda has an Ivy League ring to it! Good choice!
Reply:I know a guy named Brook--and you get used to it being on a guy...

I think it would sound really strong and masculine if it weren't so commonly used as a girls name... instead the strength and toughness will be overshadowed by the traditional female use. But you should use it if you like it--as I said, you get used to it being a guys name and it's not that common even for girls, so he probably won't know a bunch of girl Brooke's to be confused with :)
Reply:That's actually my husband's name, so I'm a little biased.

He gets frustrated a lot because people think it's a girl's name. It's like Leslie- it originated as a man's name first and was adapted by our culture as it evolved into what it is today. But there are still a few narrow-minded individuals who will fight to the death swearing it's a woman's name only.
Reply:I actually prefer it on a boy as well. I think it's quite masculine sounding. Very strong. Quite unique as well. I can't imagine it's a very common name.

I think the spelling without the "E" is additionally stronger looking for a boy. If you do chose it, definately stick with that spelling.
Reply:Brook still seems a bit feminine even without the e, but adding an S at the end makes it more masculine. I love Brooks for a guy. But just balance it out with a more traditional masculine middle name, Like Brooks Edward, Brooks Matthew, Brooks Joseph, Brooks Michael, or something of that nature.
Reply:i like the name Brook...even if it sounds a little girly... i believe it could go both ways... see people on here just automatically think it sounds like a girls name because that's all they ever seen it as.. but if you were in a classroom one day and called out Brook for a boy it probably just fit right in.. it sounds odd cause you have never seen it or heard of it before. i think its quiet fine..
Reply:It's okay... I use to work with a Brook, didn't know he was a he until I met him though... It's one of those confusing unisex names. I wouldn't name my kid something like that- but, hey, it's not my decision. So if you really like it, that's all that matters! : )
Reply:No, but Brooks is okay for a boy. I like different names also, but I'm not sure the ones I like are what you are looking for. Here they go anyways....

Reply:Not much, and probably because it sounds like the girl's name, Brooke. However, I do like Brooks, and I can't explain to you why there is a difference. So perhaps my opinion should not be very important to you.
Reply:Do you really want to have to explain to your kid that he has the name that he has because a bunch of strangers on a message board liked it?
Reply:I know a guy name Brooks...I don't see what would be wrong with naming him that. It's your baby, name him what you want to. There are definitely worse names out there. I like it.
Reply:I don't like it, I think that it is too feminine. what about Blake? that is masculine and strong sounding.
Reply:Nah, player, I wouldn't use Brook for a boy's name. You're gonna have him getting picked on and getting into fights at school with that name. That would be asking for trouble.
Reply:I would not use this. It would get him made fun of in school

Reply:It still sounds like the girl name, even if you drop the 'e'. I wouldn't use it.
