Do you consider the name Rory a boys name or a girls?

This was one of the names I initally had picked out for a baby girl when I found out I was pregnant with this child :) I love it. I'm not sure if it's because of Gilmore Girls but I always thought of it as a girls name. My hubby says otherwise. We are preggy with a boy and are trying to agree on something. I love the name. What do you think?

Thanks.

Do you consider the name Rory a boys name or a girls?
Are you my long lost twin... lol... I wanted Rory soooooo badly! For either a boy or girl, but liked it espeshally for a girl, due to most likely gilmore girls, (my fav show) but either way I love that name and had my husband let me, my daughter would have had that name, and again if he'd let me my son would have that name! LOL but he wont budge. I think it's either, but heard from many more of a boys name.
Reply:rory is an ancient irish name. translated to irish its RuaRi (roo-a-ree) which means red haired king. im from ireland and no females are ever called this its presumed as a male name because of its origins Report Abuse

Reply:Both! I really like this name too! Its between this and Cash!
Reply:I've seen it used for both. I heard it as a boys name first.
Reply:yeah I'm a big Gilmore Girls fan so i could only ever name a Daughter Rory never a son.
Reply:It could be both.I tend to think of Aurora for a girls name but either way is good.
Reply:We had a boy dog named "Rory."
Reply:I cant picture a boy having that name Rory.

In Gilmore girls isn't Rory a nick name? Thought it was short for something.

But i like the name for a girl.
Reply:Rory seems like a boys name to me, but I think I know inside myself that its unisex XD
Reply:girl...but i've heard it for both
Reply:i think it is a predomanantly male name... but a very lovely nickname for a girl with the name Aurora

If you like Rory for a boy... also condsider...

Brody

Liam

Ryan

Adam

Reply:A boys name, like Rory Calhoun. An old cowboy actor that always played the sheriff. Looked a little like Ronald Reagan, but could act.
Reply:I think it's unisex. I knew a boy named Rory and then you have the character from Gilmore Girls. I think it's a cute name either way. Congratulations!
Reply:I like it for both, but when I think of Rory I think boy

Like Rory Hennessy off 8 simple rules :)
Reply:Unless you or he have direct connections to the UK Rory is a serious girls name. Even then it is a girls name.

Worary, no worries, roary, your momma wwrorries, you have rwarts, etc.
Reply:I like it for a boy and it was one of the names we had picked out for Jackson originially but he didn't like it in general so we didn't go with it. But, I love it for a boy.
Reply:Definately girl name...Gilmore Girls rocks, and I couldn't imagine calling a little boy Rory.
Reply:I think of it as a girls' name. It would be too weird to name a boy that.
Reply:I think it is traditionally used for boys, so it is fair game for your son.

But yes, there are more and more girls called Rory these days, probably helped along by the younger of the Gilmore Girls. The character's given name, you might recall, was actually Lorelai.
Reply:In my opinion, Rory can be used as either a boy or a girl's name. it sounds good either way
Reply:I think it sounds more like a boy name, but could be both.
Reply:I always think of boys for Rory but dont know what its short for.

not much help really.

But i like OLLIE and Richie
Reply:Forget the modern rubbish, Rory is a boys name, it is Celtic and I think the original spelling was Rhiori. It is a lovely "manly" name.

Congrats on your new baby boy xx
Reply:Rory is typically a boys name, but I did enjoy it as a girls' name on Gilmore Girls...

Your hubby is right.
Reply:It's a boy's name, but one that will get him beaten up at school every single day.

What's wrong with normal names like Ned, Steve, Joe, Scott, Shawn, Jake, Dave, Dan, John, Tom, etc etc.
Reply:both
Reply:boy name
Reply:completely unisex. I like it as a nn for Gregory and Aurora...

for 2006 it was ranked 826/1000 for males and not in the top 1000 for females...in 2003 it was 987/1000 for females and 643/1000 for males...
Reply:I have only known Rory to be a boy/guy name
Reply:I'd definitely say boy. when i hear it i picture a 6-7year old boy playing in the mud in his backyard :D i think its cute for a boy
Reply:Rory for a girl is short for Aurora. Rory for a boy is probably short for Riordan of something. I'd give him a longer name, and use Rory as a nickname. I like it, it's not played out like Riley.
Reply:yeuch! sorry it makes me think of some upper class twit who can't pronounce his R's so says, "hi!, i'm Woary!"
