Why is Avery always thought of as a boys name?

I have a friend named Avery and everyone's always telling her it's a boy's name not a girls.

Why is Avery always thought of as a boys name?
actually it sounds more like a girls name than a guys name to me, not knowing anyone named avery. and i think it's a beautiful name - don't pay attention to the dude who made fun of it

As Liz said, it means Elf King; would you seriously want to name your daughter Elf King?

I know a young boy whose name is Avery and I also know a tennage girl whose name is Avery. It's like a unisex name.
Reply:Probably because people expect girls names to end in feminine letters such as A etc. Its not a guys name but more a rare girls name. Ive heard of girls called avery though and i think it sounds better suited for a girl than a guy myself

Reply:Because it is dear. Avery means "Elf king". Kings are boys. Girls are queens. Conclusion: It's a boy's name.
