What do you think of the boys name, Reuben?

Hi everyone,

We are so stuck for boys names. We have so many for a girl, Ruby and Ella being our favourites but at our scan last week the woman gave us a hint that our baby is a boy!

I quite like normal names like, Jack, Daniel and Joshua but my hubby doesn't but then I heard Reuben, which I think is quite nice.

What do you think?

Thank you xx

What do you think of the boys name, Reuben?
Reuben is a hebrew name, it means behold a son, or renewer.

I knew a Reuben many years ago, and his family were not jewish.

Reuben, sounds manly and strong

If you like the name that is all that matters.
Reply:I like the name Reuben but then you have a sandwich that most kids hate named that. Then you have the song Reuben, Reuben. Then you have the nickname Rue which they learn in about the 5th grade english class means regrets. Admittedly you could call him Ben but there's no guarantees other kids will.

My sons are Jeremy Ross %26amp; Michael Zachary. The oldest can go by J.R. professionally and Michael is a creative sort so M.Z., Zach, etc goes well. The names are a little unusual (except of course Michael) but not so unusual they invite teasing.

I also like the name Demitri which is Russian for James but then you have the Demi nickname.

There are all kinds of websites with boys name and their meaning. We went by not only the sound of the name but it's meaning. That's another way to stress your love for them 24/7 and long after you're gone. I know several who were named that way and brag about how much their parents wanted them to know their high hopes and love for them through their names.

In the olden days the first born male often got his paternal grandfather's first name %26amp; mother's maiden name for his middle name. That's kinda neat too because it helps them learn early the importance of the name they carry and pride in keeping it untarnished.
Reply:sounds mexican.
Reply:It's funny how old traditonal Jewish names like Reuben and Joshua are so fashionable now. When I was young no one had those names except the middle aged and elderly people in my local syanagogue.

Reuben is ok if you plan on becoming a Rabbi! Also gets shortened to Rube or Ruby which sound feminine.

Reply:If you like the name then go for it - check it goes with your surname and that the initials do not spell out something stupid for the child.

Reply:Um, its nice, but it reminds me of the guy from Road Trip.

What about Gideon? Or Graydon?? Traditional names are great too, like Henry and Edward and George. They're rarely used now. I don't know anyone by those names any more.
Reply:reuben makes me think of an old grey man with a messy beard, dont know why, thats only my opinion though, if you like it go with it

Reply:Hi, I like Reuben i think it is a lovely name. My daughter is 26 weeks pregnant, she has not found out the sex of her baby, if it's a boy his name will be Louie, if it's a girl her name will be Mia.
Reply:It's nice and unique as well as original.
