Would you name your daughter Jillian if your future boys name was Jack (as a nickname for John)?

I really like the name Jillian for a daughter but am hesitant because we want more kids. If one of those future kids is a boy his name will be John but we would call him Jack. Too silly or acceptable?

Would you name your daughter Jillian if your future boys name was Jack (as a nickname for John)?
Jillian is cute, but Jack and Jill would be too silly. Why would you use Jack as a nickname for John? Either way, you should just name your children as they come - don't rule out a name based on the names you like for your possible future children, because you never know what the future brings...
Reply:If you truly LOVE the name than go for it! I wouldn't pass something up over a silly nursery rhyme. But be prepared to hear 'Jack and Jill' comments all the time. It's not a terrible association at all, just laugh it off learn to joke about it with others. I love the name Jill - it's so sweet! I hope you do use it.

Don't listen to the posters who say Jack is not a nickname for John- they are sorely mistaken and ignorant. Jack is a legit nickname for John- especially so if his middle name or last name starts with a hard 'C' or 'K.' It's been done for years.
Reply:Jack and Jillian would be too silly. However, if you really like the names, there are some ways to minimize the connection to Jack and Jill:

You could spell the name with a "G" as in "Gillian". I know a few Gillians who spell their name that way and it is a bit more sophisticated, I think.

There are other nicknames for John. Perhaps you could consider one of those. For example: Jock, Jonny. Or there are ethnic variants on John, such as Ian, Shawn, Zane, Ivan, etc. that you could use as a nickname.

Best wishes!
Reply:Yes, as Jack %26amp; Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. i see nothing wrong with names beginning with the same letter.

what about Jackson? i like the name John and call him John.

John %26amp; Jillian

Jill %26amp; John

Jilly%26amp; Johnny

^ sounds/looks cute together!
Reply:Jack and Jill

Well yes

But on the other hand, who said you will have a boy or another child

You can plan on Jack, you may never get one

I might wait, and use Jillian or Jack for the next child

Reply:nothing wrong with Jillian and John aka Jack

Jillian can be nicknamed Jilly or Lilly when she's older if thats what she wanted. if you introduce them as JIllian and John or Jillian and Jack then that is what people will call them.
Reply:No, I would consider Jillian unusable in that situation. Why torture them with a lifetime of:

"Oh, like Jack and Jill went up the hill...?"

Choose another name.
Reply:Jillian is a great name! I don't see anything wrong with having a Jillian and a Jack. Other than Jack and Jill. That's the only silly part.
Reply:I wouldn't name my daughter Jillian in the first place.

John and Jack are much better. I'd toss Jillian.
Reply:I don't see what the problem is. Lucky for you - you can name your child whatever you want.
Reply:I'd be inclined to use Gillian so you don't have two kids with the same initial. That would have the advantage that Jack and Gill doesn't look quite so obvious...
Reply:What if you don't have a boy???? Jillian is a beautiful name. Who care's what people say? They won't always be together. I know someone who gave her girls flower names........
Reply:Why would u name your son John and call him Jack?? Thaat's not even a name that comes from John..However I really like the name Jillian
Reply:Acceptable
Reply:I don't think that would be funny. I love the name Jillian. I say go for it.
Reply:Don`t Choose Jillian
Reply:if u want names to go with john ..jillian is out of the question

Johnette, jean, Johnnie or Josie are better options...
Reply:Awww, Jack and Jill! No, I think that is adorable.
Reply:That is WAY too cutesy. I'd pick another girl's name.
Reply:they will be referred to as Jack and Jill, lol
