What do you think about this boys name?

Gunnar Lee?

Gunnar is an old family name and Lee is his daddy's name. We want something 'masculine' that he can grow into. What do you think?

What do you think about this boys name?
I really like it. It sounds like the name of someone who is strong-willed and strong-minded. He will definitely have to grow into it, but when he does, he will thank you for his cool, manly name.
Reply:Gunnar... what would his nickname be: "Gun"? ;-)

Kidding. But on a more serious note... He may run into some trouble from his classmates growing up, depending how he handles it... what if he's not the social type and gets offended or hurt?

Psychologically speaking, a personality has generally formed it's basis by the age of seven.

Young boys, especially, start being territorial after a certain period of time (think along the lines of an alpha male), and at first/eventually they may try to weed each other out in choosing the "strongest." This is an unconscious process which could have some or little effect on overall personality development. A name is just a name, but also sometimes a target. This can come out either really well (assertiveness, confidence), or may end up hurting his feelings a bit, depending how he's taught.

Obviously he'll be recognized for his name (provided names like "Brian" and "John" continue to dominate the dime a dozen barrells), but that could be a very good thing.

Generally, take a look at your boy's father and his family (esp. the males) and consider whether they have "strong" and social characters... if they do, it's highly possible that these traits will be passed on to your son genetically. (Yep, some of your personality is genetic.)

But again, anything can play a deciding factor, so I wouldn't weigh too much on it. Those are some little bits of info about effects of a name in case you were interested in delving a bit deeper.

Best of luck!

[ Personally, I think it's a great name :-) ]
