What, in your opinion, is the most popular girl;s and/or boys name of all time?

John and Mary -- based on actual statistics, though, so I can't claim them "in my opinion." ;)





These were literally the MOST popular given names every decade from the 1880s to 1910s, with John dropping one spot to number two in the 1920s, three in the 1930s and 1940s, four in the 1950s and back up to three in the 1960s, when Mary FINALLY gave up the most popular spot -- after EIGHT decades at number one! -- moving to number two behind Lisa. ;) Mary then began a slow descent out of the top ten, 25, etc., but remains in the top 100 even today. And despite John's earlier slight drop, it's actually remained rather steady throughout the years, never ONCE leaving the top 20 from 1880 to 2006 (2007's number's aren't yet out). Now that's what I call staying power! ;)

More recently I think Isabella, Mia and Olivia are quite popular for girls and Oliver, Jackson and Jayden (though I personally don't like this name!) are popular for boys.

Reply:well, for girls i would say Kayla! there are so many Kaylas at my school! in just my grade, there is a Cayla, Calla, Kaela, and many Kaylas. There are also many Ashleys, but they are all spelled the same. and there are quite a number of Laurens, but one is Laurin.





and as for boys, there are quite a number of Marks, Kris/Chris', and Alex's, and Austins. probably an equal number of those.

Reply:At the moment I would say Aiden and Emily. However, for all time I would go with Joshua and Emma. I know SO many of them! And really, they are nice names and timeless. They've lasted so long, so they must be good names! Just too popular for my liking.
