Is Jordan more of a girls name or a boys name?

I know it can be both but which is more?

Is Jordan more of a girls name or a boys name?
The Social Security Adminstration, which assigned the SSNs to all newborns, tracks the popularity of the top 1000 names each year. Check their website at

http://ssa.gov/cgi-bin/babyname.cgi

and you will see the ranking of Jordan as a girl's name in the past 10 years was:

Popularity of the female name Jordan

Year of birth Rank *

2006 97

2005 86

2004 70

2003 48

2002 45

2001 47

2000 50

1999 48

1998 42

1997 40

1996 49

* Note: Rank 1 is the most popular girl's name in the country that year, rank 2 is the next most popular, and so forth

Versus the popularity of Jordan as a boy's name in the past 10 years:

Popularity of the male name Jordan

Year of birth Rank

2006 46

2001 39

2000 36

1998 27

Which proves that while statistically, Jordan is still more widely used as a boys name, it's not very far behind in popularity as a girl's name.

(and personally, although I think it is a great name, I would avoid picking a name that is in the top 50 for popularity).
Reply:I actually don't know......

I've met a Jordan who is a girl %26amp;%26amp; heard (never met) a Jordan who was a boy......

Personally, I think that lots of unisex names turned out to be much more common for females, not males. Jordan though is kinda of stuck inbetween! I like it for both genders, but it's just not masculine enough to be more of a boy's name But not girly enough to be more of a girl's name

So I would have to say both! But lots of unisex names, turn out to be more of a female name : )
