Is Ethan a really popular boys name in the UK at the moment?

I wanted something that's not going to be really popular!

Is Ethan a really popular boys name in the UK at the moment?
It is becoming more popular, do you mean 'common'?
Reply:Ethan is a Hebrew name meaning strong, firm and impetuous (ie: stubborn?). It always puts me in mind of anaesthetic.
Reply:My husband and i were going to call our baby Ethan if she had been a boy. There is a mum at my eldests school who has a 2 year old called Ethan and also a little boy at my local playgroup. I dont think its overly common but it is getting more popular. Its a lovely name though, its one of very few names that i would have gone with x
Reply:I don't think that its that popular, but it is a nice name
Reply:Ethan is sorta popular, ive heard babies being called it a few times already!!

I loved the name that much, i called my daughter it, but spelt leigh!! people always comment on her name sayn its lovely!!
Reply:I wouldnt say its a REALLY popular name as a matter of fact i only know of 2 boys with this name but i would say its on the rise check out the national staistics for 2007 tell u all the most pop names that were registered in uk last year i beleive my sons name (Jack) is the most popular and has been for around 15 years
Reply:Ethan isn't currently a popular name in the U.K. at the moment. So feel free to choose that name.
Reply:Its not as common as "Jayden" or "Jordan" but is slowly getting there. I think its a gorgeous choice though and if you love it, go with it. It's one of my own favourites!

Have a look at the second chart at the bottom of this page, its quite interesting! It charts the popularity of the name in different countries with in being in the top 4O in the U.K in 2OO5. This name is in the top 1OO in many Western countries but don't let that put you off! Its definately less commonly used here in England than in the USA.

Reply:It's a recognised name, like, people dont have trouble spelling it or pronouncing it, and i know of only one Ethan. However he's about 6/7 so it could be increasingly popular.

But i like it :)

Reply:Yes.

I AM ETHAN(!)
Reply:yes it is quite common in the uk
Reply:Very popular in South Wales right now.
Reply:My son is 11 and he is Ethan and we live in the UK, we also know 1 other Ethan of the same age, so I suppose its becoming popular. On the plus side it has a lovely sound to it when you say his name, I'm so glad I choose it. I think choosing a baby's name is difficult, but don't get too bogged down by what's popular or not, you will be living with that name for a very long time and its important for you to love it!
Reply:Yeah, i think so. My man likes it but it reminds me of METHANE or ETHANOL!!!!
Reply:I think it might be.
Reply:Yes the name Ethan Hunt is very popular in UK.
Reply:Yes! Its currently at number 15 in the top 100.

Reply:I have never met an ethan in the multi-cultural area where I live but yes, it is quite a popular name in some areas.
Reply:it is popular but not over common, like its not on the top 20 top boys names or anything! Its a lovely name I like it!
Reply:Yes is quite a popular name now and is lots of kids called that so would go for something different.
Reply:Im in Australia and my 2 year old son is Ethan. I had never heard of any other Ethans until I had him, now every second boy I come across has the same name! If Id known it was so popular I wouldve chosen another name. Try googling top 100 boys names UK, you should be able to find the latest list.
Reply:Yes in the top ten names
Reply:Its not overly popular but its a nice name.
